DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Dr. KrummrichWe are the largest and most diverse department on campus, with offices and classrooms in three different buildings, and a deep involvement in the life of the university and the community. Our faculty members bring the excitement of their ongoing research into the classroom, and the department supports a rich array of creative readings and discussion groups in addition to classes. We offer challenging majors in English, French, Philosophy, and Spanish, with minors available in those areas as well as in Creative Writing, Linguistics, Literature, and Technical and Professional Writing. We are especially proud of our key role in preparing high school teachers of English, French, and Spanish to meet the ever-growing needs of the state of Kentucky.  Our faculty have been pioneers in developing online classes, particularly in our demanding M.A. program in English.

Students in our department rapidly develop their skills in thinking, reading, speaking, and writing, and thus prepare themselves for all the careers in which those skills are important—that is, almost all careers. The size of the department enables our majors and minors to interact with an unusually large and diverse group of students with similar interests, and to work with professors with many different strengths and perspectives.

We welcome visits and inquiries from students who are interested in any of our undergraduate or graduate programs. If you have any questions, or would like to schedule a tour, please give me a call at 606-783-2726, or send me an e-mail at p.krummrich@moreheadstate.edu, and we’ll set up an appointment.  To find out more about our programs, you can also use the links in the blue bar at the top of the screen.

Join us in the Department of English, Foreign Languages, and Philosophy, and find out how following your heart, and studying what you truly love to learn, can be both satisfying and practical!
