Scholarships require continuous full-time enrollment and residence in University housing for the fall and spring semesters unless otherwise noted. Recipients living at home and commuting to campus must request a waiver of the housing requirement. Students enrolled full-time at an MSU regional campus will be exempt from the on-campus housing requirement. Scholarships are divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. With few exceptions, scholarships are renewable through completion of undergraduate degree requirements or a maximum of eight semesters.

Notification letters include the duration and renewal criteria for each scholarship. Applicants are required to accept or reject the scholarship offer within 60 days of notification. Failure to notify MSU will be considered a rejection and the scholarship will be made available to other qualified applicants. General requirements for renewal include successful completion of a minimum of 12 semester hours and achievement of the required minimum GPA (grade point average) for each semester. Specific renewal criteria are indicated in each scholarship category.

In situations where the on-campus housing requirement is waived, the scholarship value will be adjusted accordingly.

With the exception of Alumni and Diversity Scholarships, a student may not receive more than one MSU scholarship. Students are awarded the highest scholarship for which they qualify and for which funds are available. If funds are exhausted in one category, applicants will be considered for scholarships in another qualifying category. Changes in eligibility criteria and value of scholarships reflected in this document are effective with the fall semester of 2008 and are not retroactive to scholarships awarded for previous school years or semesters.

A student's financial aid package - including federal, state, private, and/or institutional aid - cannot exceed MSU's established "cost of attendance" for any given year.
